Four generations of entrepreneurship

Interview Silvan Hexspoor

80 years of Hexspoor. Four generations. One family story.

In 2026, Hexspoor E-fulfilment will celebrate its 80th anniversary. A remarkable milestone that coincides with a new chapter in our family business: Sjors and Tijn Hexspoor have joined Hexspoor E-fulfilment. With their arrival, the fourth generation is now at the helm.

The story of Hexspoor begins in 1946, when Gerard Hexspoor Sr. founded a bookbinding company. Under the leadership of his son, Gerard Hexspoor Jr., Hexspoor became a renowned bookbinding business, partly thanks to the innovative Otabind binding technique.

Silvan Hexspoor later expanded the company into an internationally recognized bookbinding operation. Continuous innovation in binding techniques and an uncompromising focus on quality ensured that books produced in Boxtel received awards year after year.

From bookbinding to fulfilment

Digitization fundamentally changed the publishing industry, ultimately leading to the closure of the bookbinding business. Under the name Hexspoor Support Center, however, a new future emerged as a logistics service provider. Under the leadership of Susanne Bolck, this logistics division developed into today’s Hexspoor E-fulfilment: a leading player in European B2C and B2B fulfilment.

Hexspoor continues to serve premium brands from both the Netherlands and abroad. No longer through books, but through European distribution. Its client portfolio includes exclusive cosmetics and sports brands, as well as high-end tool manufacturers. With success: over the past two years, the company has been named Best Fulfilment Warehouse in the Netherlands (Emerce100) and has received ten FD Gazellen Awards for exceptional growth.

The next generation

As is common in many family businesses, the children quite literally grew up among the warehouse shelves. Helping out on Saturdays, holiday jobs and internships were all part of it. Still, joining the company was never a given.

“They had to follow their own hearts and ambitions,” says Silvan. “That’s why it came as a surprise when Tijn and Sjors took the initiative one day to talk about the possibility of joining the family business. Of course, Susanne and I were pleased to hear that, but we approached it with caution.”

Extensive discussions followed, including sessions with external coaches, to carefully assess whether it was the right fit for everyone in the family. “After all, it still has to be enjoyable around the Christmas table,” Silvan adds with a smile.

A family business in a consolidating market

The fulfilment market is changing rapidly, with growing interest from investors. Hexspoor has consciously chosen a different path: remaining a family-owned business. This allows room for long-term investments, sustainable choices and socially responsible entrepreneurship — values that are increasingly important to the premium brands Hexspoor serves.

Silvan explains: “The entry of Sjors and Tijn safeguards that continuity. For our customers, for our team, and for the future of the company.”

Confidence in the future

“Sjors and Tijn differ in background and character, and that is precisely what makes them such a strong combination. Together with an experienced management team, they bring new energy and fresh perspectives,” says Silvan.

“Susanne and I are therefore stepping back slightly, giving the boys and the Management Team the space to truly lead. From a distance, we naturally continue to follow the company with great interest — and if needed, we are always there.”

A symbolic moment

During the Hexspoor Family Celebration, held in honour of the 80th anniversary, the key was symbolically handed over. A fitting moment to reflect on eight decades of entrepreneurship and to look ahead to a new phase.

Hexspoor remains Hexspoor. Family-driven, people-focused and ready for the future.
