160 kilometres for ParkinsonNederland

With every step, Quinty contributed to supporting Parkinson research.

Last month, we shared Quinty’s fundraising campaign for ParkinsonNederland in our newsletter. ParkinsonNederland is committed to improving the lives of people living with Parkinson’s disease through research, information and support. Since then, Quinty has successfully completed the International Four Days Marches Nijmegen. By walking 40 kilometres a day for four consecutive days, she raised €3,120 with the support of 129 donors. At Hexspoor, we are proud to have supported this meaningful initiative.

A personal motivation

For Quinty, taking part in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches was about much more than completing a sporting challenge. Her mother lives with Parkinson’s disease, and she also works as a fundraiser for ParkinsonNederland. That made this challenge especially meaningful.

“Because my mother has Parkinson’s, taking part in the Four Days Marches meant so much more to me. That’s exactly why I wanted to take on this challenge for ParkinsonNederland.”

Four days of determination

The Four Days Marches consists of four consecutive walking days, covering 40 kilometres each day. Reaching the start line required months of preparation. Quinty followed a carefully planned training schedule, gradually increasing the distances she walked each week. In the final weeks before the event, she developed plantar fasciitis, forcing her to stop training earlier than planned.

Despite these setbacks, she decided to take on the challenge. Once she started walking, she quickly realised that her foot felt strong again, giving her the confidence to continue.

Not every day was easy. The second day proved to be the toughest, with rain, large crowds and a slower walking pace making the route more demanding. Even so, Quinty kept going. Four days later, she crossed the finish line.

"When I saw the finish line, it really hit me that I had walked 160 kilometres. It was an incredibly special and emotional moment."

Together for ParkinsonNederland

Throughout the event, Quinty walked as part of Team ParkinsonNederland. What touched her most were the personal stories shared by the other participants. Everyone had their own reason for taking part, but they all shared the same goal: raising awareness and support for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

“It wasn’t a sad atmosphere at all. It was filled with hope, positivity and people supporting one another. That made the experience truly special.”

Thanks to the support of family, friends, colleagues and many other donors, Quinty raised a total of €3,120 for the ParkinsonNederland Foundation, exceeding her original fundraising target of €2,500.

“Every donation and every encouraging message motivated me. Whether someone donated €5 or made a larger contribution, I was grateful for every bit of support. It gave me the extra motivation to keep going.”

A cause that is close to our hearts

At Hexspoor, we are pleased to support initiatives that make a positive contribution to society. Quinty’s campaign had a special, personal meaning for us. Hexspoor founder Gerard Hexspoor lived with Parkinson’s disease for many years. As a result, we know from personal experience how deeply the condition can affect both the person living with it and those around them.

That made it especially meaningful for us to support Quinty during the Nijmegen Four Days Marches. Quinty, congratulations on this remarkable achievement. We would also like to thank everyone who contributed to this wonderful result for ParkinsonNederland.
