To continue growing and operate more efficiently, we recently expanded our warehouse. We spoke with our Operations Manager, Sjors, about the reasons behind the expansion, the choices that were made and the impact on our day-to-day operations. Why was this necessary, and how was it approached?
“The growth of our customer base and the increasing diversity of products called for a smarter warehouse layout,” says Sjors. “Our aim was not just to create more space, but to work more efficiently and in a future-proof way.”
“We started with an extensive data analysis,” he explains. “This involved reviewing the dimensions of our existing storage, customer profiles and product characteristics. Based on this, we were able to determine which solutions would suit us best.”
During the research phase, several options were considered, including cabinets, high-density shelving systems and even sustainable cardboard storage units. “Each of these solutions has its advantages,” Sjors notes, “but they did not provide the level of efficiency we were looking for.”
Ultimately, the decision was made to use mesh decking. “This offers maximum flexibility in terms of location, which is a crucial factor in logistics.”
The picking method was also reviewed. Sjors explains that the team chose a narrow aisle truck from Crown. “This allows us to pick B2B orders directly at height. It eliminates unnecessary pallet movement: employees no longer need to bring pallets down but can pick products directly at the storage location.”
Thanks to our experience with Crown vehicles, both the purchase of the truck and the training of our staff went smoothly. The training covered not only the operation of the truck, but also the various safety aspects involved.
With this expansion, our warehouse is ready to grow alongside our customers and to tackle future challenges efficiently.
