Black Friday, Sinterklaas and the festive season may still seem some way off, but behind the scenes, preparations for peak season are already well underway. To make sure we can handle larger order volumes when the time comes, we want to have the clearest possible picture of what to expect.
That is where our clients’ forecasts play an important role.
How many orders are our clients expecting during Black Friday? When do they expect the busiest days? And are there any promotions or campaigns planned that could lead to additional volumes?
We use this information to calculate the capacity we will need in the coming months. This gives us a clear picture of what will be needed on the work floor and allows us to prepare in good time.
Of course, a forecast does not have to predict every single order. But the better the picture we have in advance, the better we can match our capacity to the volumes that eventually come in.
During peak season, we process many more orders than usual in a short period of time. That is why we look not only at the expected volumes, but also at what we need to handle them.
We test our warehouse equipment and scanners to make sure everything is ready for intensive use. At the same time, we have started recruiting additional temporary staff. We are working with Toppy, among others, to make sure we have enough people available when volumes increase.
By arranging as much as possible in advance, we aim to avoid unexpected challenges during the busiest weeks of the year.
Our preparations do not stop when a parcel leaves our warehouse. Carriers also have to deal with significantly higher volumes during the festive season.
That is why we share our expected volumes with them in advance and coordinate the available capacity. Where necessary, we schedule additional collections. This way, we work together to make sure that larger volumes of parcels can leave our warehouse on time.
Every peak season requires careful coordination. From having enough colleagues and reliable scanners to ensuring sufficient capacity with our carriers: many of these preparations begin weeks before the real rush starts.
That is why we ask our clients to share their forecasts with us as completely and as early as possible. Have expectations changed, or is a major campaign unexpectedly coming up? Please let us know. This allows us to keep adjusting our planning and helps us make sure we are as well prepared as possible when peak season begins.
